Kwe’!
Ni’n teluisi Morgan Hunt, mjijaqamijg milui’tit Laresse aq Uggamlamun Gwimu Gtapegiaqan Asoqoma’q. Wettapeksi Port au Port, Ktaqmkuk.
Hi, my name is Morgan Hunt, I am known by Spirit under the name Uggamlamun Gwimu Gtapegiaqan Asoqoma’q (Heart Loon Song She Swims Across) and my roots are from Port au Port, Newfoundland. I am a Mi’kmaw visual artist and poet from Qalipu First Nation, whose work is rooted in acrylic, beadwork and relationship. My work is passionately dedicated to cultural reclamation, revitalization and in that reconciliation. In the best way I can explain it, I carry songs across forgotten planes and I carry them from my heart. This is my Heartwork. As a self-taught beadwork artist, I first took up beading as an act of reclamation, ensuring my grandmother had access to regalia she had been denied for most of her life. This experience instilled in me a deep commitment to our visibility and to providing everyone access to regalia. If you are in need of regalia, please do not hesitate to reach out — I will be more than happy to help.Wela’lin,
Morgan Hunt

A community gift

We Walk With You

We Walk With You is an ongoing initiative rooted in Indigenous visibility, care and access to regalia. Each year, I gift a fully beaded graduation cap to a graduating Indigenous student at our local university, Memorial University of Newfoundland. This gift is offered in recognition of the weight and significance of Indigenous presence within academic spaces. This initiative was created with Indigenous students in mind who may not otherwise have access to beadwork or regalia for their convocation. It is an offering meant to honour both individual achievement and the communities, ancestors, and futures that walk alongside each graduate. It is an honoring of the change each graduate represents as they cross the stage.
